Google toolbar+Google translate

Google’s new translation options is now added to the Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer. The toolbar can now automatically recognize a particular website in a language other than the default language for example when you are on a Japanese Web site. There will be a notification from the toolbar appearing, asking if you want to translate the page into your own language (English or any other).

There is also a Translate button on the toolbar for a page to be translated instantly. This way you do not first go to a translation service like Google Translate to surf certain websites or portions of websites to translate. In total, just like the regular translation service Google Translate 41 languages almost instantly from your Google toolbar itself.

Google Bans and says Goodbye to Windows

by teamgpt June 10, 2002
written by teamgpt

After the China – Google attacks, Google has taken measures, that the attack won’t happen again by ditching Microsoft OS.

Google has informed its employees to use of Microsoft operating systems in the future for security reasons. Apparently, after the attacks of China, who got into Google’s systems by exploiting a bug in Windows, Google has decided to stop using the MS Windows.

They say that any Google employee who wants to use a Windows PC has to ask for special permission says Google employee:

Most no longer use Windows. It is an effort on security. Many people have moved from PCs to the Mac OS, especially after the attacks from China.

Google says it is comfortable with systems like Mac or Linux. Microsoft is a competitor to Google, so it might make sense to pay less for Microsoft licenses, while Windows insecurity is advertised. On the other hand, Google promotes Apple and Linux, who is also a competitor. Others see this step behind the upcoming launch of Google’s own OS –  The Chrome OS.

The truth is that the strong competitor in operating systems is Windows, not Apple. Not many people will switch to Apple because Google does not think that is safer, but many will stop using Windows.

April fools joke: Youtube – A New viewing experience

by teamgpt April 9, 2002
written by teamgpt

flipped youtube

Google-owned YouTube flips their videos upside down today part of a “New Viewing Experience”. YouTube suggests you turn “your monitor upside-down” as their internal tests have shown “that modern computer monitors give a higher quality picture” this way. Just append a “&flip=1” parameter to a YouTube video page URL, and the video and other parts of the page will be flipped. (Videos linked from the YouTube homepage also use the flip-parameter today.) The flipping parameter does not work with all videos, but it works with most of the videos :).
