A Plaxo ‘like’ Wordpress Theme

by teamgpt January 10, 2005
written by teamgpt

plaxo-riffictheme

Description

The Plaxo Theme is out and its free. The theme is as simple as the Plaxo design itself, this theme brings it all together. It looks good and works great. I’ve added all of the best design elements on the Plaxo layout and with loads of Plaxo-like features and more….. On the options page you will be able to adjust the theme to your preferences. You can also choose between different style schemes which differ in color and fonts…..

Preview:

http://plaxo.thesharath.com

Download:

Download Plaxo-riffic theme (Approximately 950kb)

Features:

  • Dual sidebar. Separate sidebar for Pages and Index page
  • Widget-ready sidebar
  • Custom Bread crumb navigation
  • Customized front page to look like a news or magazine site
  • Breadcrumb ready plugin (for better SEO)
  • Customized templates for every type of WordPress file, such as category.php and and archive.php
  • Customized sidebars for different pages of the site
  • Placeholders for ads. Great sidebar sizes for 125×125px ads
  • Adsense Ready – Link Ads ready theme

Read me before getting started:

  • There is a readme.txt in the theme that you just downloaded. Please read carefully before getting started.

Credits:

  • Devolux – JQ for awesome theme framework
  • And thanks to Justin Tadlock for the Breadcrumb plugin :)

Licenses:

  • If you use this theme, you must leave a link back to me on your site. A full copy of the legal code is in a file called “license.txt,” which is included with your download.
  • Licensed under the GPL licenses.

Compatibility:

While designing this theme, I’ve tested the theme using Firefox 3+, Internet explorer 8 and Chrome. It works like charm on these browsers.

p.s. I also tried the theme on IE6 but the current version is wonky with the retarded browser IE6. Feel free to report bugs and I’ll fix them.

On my mind:

Thank you, thank you. I don’t even know where to start. BUT I’m proud of it. It’s been a frustrating three weeks tweaking little things here and there fixing lots of browser compatibility issues and bugging my friends to test the site on their browsers :) well thanks for all the help guys.

People ask me why Plaxo? Why not Facebook or Myspace like WordPress theme?

Its simply because there is already a Facebook, Myspace like WordPress theme available on the internet. Really – try googling it! Plus Plaxo’s design is consistent and readable for blog readers. The Plaxo-riffic theme has lots of new features. One of them is the custom background. You can add a custom background individually for the main index page and the single pages.

Looking at the outcome, I’m damn happy with how the theme turned out. There’s still a little work to be done, but I’m ready to release it to the WordPress-theme-O-sphere… I really wanted to add more features to the theme. Unfortunately due to time constraints couldn’t involve too much into the theme. Hopefully the next version of the Plaxo-riffic theme will have more features :).  With all that said, feel free to report bugs here, and I’ll try to killem’ all one at a time…..

Future releases?

Hell ya…. i’m gonna develop this theme and fix bugs :)… contact me, if you need anything!! I’m also planning on adding more features to the theme in the future releases, stay tuned….!!!

Is OnePlus 3T worth the upgrade from OnePlus 3?

by teamgpt December 16, 2004
written by teamgpt

OnePlus 3 has been a phenomenal success from the previous version OnePlus 2. But the real question is, should a OnePlus 3 user upgrade to the latest OnePlus 3T? We’re not sure yet!

promo-oneplus3t

Both the devices pack almost the same hardware specifications but there is a bit of hardware upgrades when it comes to the latest OnePlus 3T. Let’s deep dive into the specs now and see what really has changed between OnePlus3 and OnePlus3T.

Specifications:

oneplus3-vs-oneplus3t

In a glimpse, we noticed few areas where there has been a bump in hardware specifications. Like the Battery has been improved and upgraded from 3000 mAh to a 3400 mAh in the OnePlus 3T, Secondary camera has been increased to 16MP from 8MP, Storage upgrade from the 64GB to the 128GB version & the Chipset has been upgraded from Snapdragon 820 to Snapdragon 821.

The upgraded Snapdragon 821 chipset seems to be more efficient in battery consumption, improved boot timing, performance & the graphic rendering capabilities seem to have improved than its predecessor snapdragon chipset 820..

The main plus for the upgraded chipset could be the compatibility with Google Daydream platform that is already available for the Google Pixel users on the Pixel devices.

So again, does it make sense to upgrade from the OnePlus 3 to the OnePlus 3T?

The answer could be discovered only on the usage one needs. Both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T go head-on except for some minor hardware upgrades. From a pricing perspective the OnePlus 3T has been rated one point lower than the OnePlus 3. You pay what you get holds good here. For the hardware bump the price seems to be a good fit. But that doesn’t really mean that one definitely needs to upgrade the latest version of OnePlus device from the OnePlus 3.

If you an older OnePlus user like the OnePlus one or the OnePlus two, then the latest OnePlus 3T definitely seems like a good upgrade to go for.

New Fade-in homepage for Google

by teamgpt December 9, 2004
written by teamgpt

Google has launched, a new conventional home. The new Google is initially quite minimal, but at the smallest mouse movement, will make the familiar interface come back. The interface was tested before a few months.

Once you visit Google.com, only the search bar, the Google logo, and the two buttons will be present. No, Google has taken no austerity for the Internet traffic from Google users. Rather, a new home was that converts its design, once you make a mouse movement. Then comes out within a few milliseconds, the classical link bar with a javascript Fade-in “effect and everything is back as usual.
google new hompage fade-in

Before this version of the home was ready, the guys from Google went through a series of experiments, where sometimes even search buttons were missing and thus created humorous effects such as the bar code with input field. Ultimately, they opted for the model, the buttons, the logo and search box can be always visible and the rest of “framework” via javascript.

Google Maps Street View tour of UNESCO World Heritage

by teamgpt December 9, 2004
written by teamgpt
street view
Take a virtual walk around some of the world’s most remarkable natural and cultural landmarks using Google Maps, Google Earth and Street View. Google is partnered with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) to put imagery of World Heritage sites into Street View. And’ve released new imagery for 19 UNESCO sites around Europe, including places in Czech Republic, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and United Kingdom. You can explore sites directly in Google Maps, or visit this site to learn more.

Here is a quick video:

19 of UNESCO’s 890 world heritage sites can now be seen via Google’s Street View interface, which provides nearly spherical panoramic (360° horizontal and 290° vertical) views taken by cameras mounted on vehicles. All the other sites on the List will be shown on the Google Earth and Google Maps interfaces.

“The alliance with Google makes it possible to offer virtual visits of the sites to everyone, to increase awareness and to encourage participation in the preservation of these treasures,”.

“Cultural and natural heritage sites are an irreplaceable source of inspiration and fascination. This is an exciting project and we’re thrilled to be working with UNESCO to make more World Heritage sites universally accessible and useful to all,” said Carlo d’Asaro, Google’s Vice-President for Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa.

In future, Google and UNESCO will also work together to provide online access, via Google Maps, YouTube and Google Earth, to maps, texts and videos pertaining to UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserves, to documentary heritage inscribed on the Memory of the World Register and to endangered languages.

[Warning] Another facebook phishing scam revealed

by teamgpt November 9, 2004
written by teamgpt

Another day, another Facebook phishing scam. How do you deal with Facebook scam? Is my Facebook account in trouble? We post regular security tips on social media, do subscribe to our feed to get regular updates.

Another scammer trying to steal passwords. Today I received another phishing attempt email from update+cwiqnmy@facebookmail.com…

another-facebook-scam-email1

The subject of the email says “new login system” and the body of the email states:

<!– phishing –>

Dear Facebook user,
In an effort to make your online experience safer and more enjoyable, Facebook will be implementing a new login system that will affect all Facebook users. These changes will offer new features and increased account security.
Before you are able to use the new login system, you will be required to update your account.
Click here to update your account online now.
If you have any questions, reference our New User Guide.

<!– phishing –>

And the Click here link points to the below location.

http://www.facebook.com.ersd12wc.eu/globaldirectory/LoginFacebook.php?ref=81014744842916946
502040998755524548875502944949&email=XXXXXXX@abc.com

facebook-scammers-link-takes-to-this-page1

Now, how do you find out if its legitimate? See what the URL redirects to:

http://www.facebook.com.ersd12wc.eu/

Although the first part of the URL says facebook.com its actually a sub domain of ersd12wc.eu. So when you’re in a hurry and try signing into the site using your Facebook username and password, it saves your data and eventually your facebook account gets hacked.

If spam has been sent from your account:

  • Reset your Facebook password immediately. You can do this by clicking on the “Forgot Your Password” link on the login page or by going to the Account Setttings page once logged in.
  • If you can’t reset the password on your account because the email address you use to log in has been changed, or if your account has been disabled, contact our User Operations team.
  • Run a virus scan on your computer, as you may have inadvertently downloaded malware. Free virus scanners are posted below.

If you’ve seen spam sent from a friend’s account:

  • Tell your friend to follow the steps above.
  • Warn those who received the spam not to click on it, and to delete it from their Walls and Inboxes immediately.

This post is a part of our security awareness post. If you know or have any social security tips, please contact us using the contact form.

How to: Add your WordPress.com blog to Google Webmaster tools

by teamgpt October 9, 2004
written by teamgpt

wordpressgoogle webmaster central

I’m sure many of you have tried to add your WordPress blog into Google Webmaster Tools but failed to verify the blog since you cannot add meta tags, neither you can upload an HTML file since yours is a free WordPress blog.

Here’s a way if you really wish to add your blog into Google Webmaster Tools in few simple steps:

  1. First of all, you would need to use any of Google’s services; to get you a Google account. So get it ready, if you already have it, and then login to Google Webmaster Tools,
  2. Also, login to your WordPress admin panel. Once you’re into both sites, then first add your blog, for this you’ll see a “Add a site” link inside Google Webmaster Tools main page.
  3. Tip: Add your blog without www first, then with www. Example: http:// blog-address.wordpress.com then again add http://www. blog-address.wordpress.com…
First one is without www and you’ll be asked to verify your blog and Google will give you a Meta tag. In the drop box, select HTML File, then Google will give you a long filename with .html extension, example:google0cdyek69fa2bd88f.html

  4. Now copy this filename and come back to your wordpress admin panel. Go to the ‘Pages’ menu on the left and click on ‘Add new’. Paste the filename in the post title field, don’t worry if the URL below is changed to a dash, let it be. Inside the post body, you may simply paste the filename again, or leave it blank, it doesn’t matter.
  5. Since we don’t want this new page to appear in your blog’s navigation panel, on the right, in the Attributes field, choose Page Parent – choose any other already existing page as parent and now save this new page. Go to Webmaster Tools tab and now click on ‘Verify‘ button
  6. Done!

Now you have added your blog, and also verified it. Similarly add your blog with a www now. (So if someone types your blog’s URL with a www, then it will show up in search history pane in Google Webmaster Tools) … Have fun :)
