How to access your Google services more quickly than ever, with just a click

by teamgpt August 9, 2005
written by teamgpt

If you are a Google fan just like me, then you would always have the trouble of typing each of the of the Google links… Yeah i know its a pain :) .. Here is a Mozilla Addon that you could install which would help you access all the Google services like Adsense, Analytics, Orkut, Docs, Picasa, Youtube etc with just one click… GButts is a tiny little addon to mozilla, which offers a single shortcut to almost all the Google services and I kinda of found it quite useful. Here is how to install the addon to Mozilla, and Google services with in one click:

1. Go to the mozilla addons page and search for Gbutts addon
It’s easy to get the add-on from your Firefox browser or from the Mozilla website and add it to the browser. Please note that your Firefox browser should be version 2.00 or higher.

2. Restart Firefox and goto addons
To get your add-on working, you’ll need to restart the browser and go to ‘Tools’ in your menu and click ‘Add-ons’ and then select the add-on and click ‘Options’.

3. Select the Google service that you use too much
In the settings you can opt for Gmail, Google Maps, Google Docs, Picasa, YouTube, Orkut, Google Voice, Google Alerts, Google Books, Blogger, iGoogle, and many more. I almost choose all of them, since I use them regularly.

4. Vola, you’re done!!

Happy Googling :) and if you liked this post subscribe to the RSS feed or follow me on twitter.

Marissa Mayer has decided that it was necessary to improve the search experience by giving the option to personalize the Google homepage – Bing style, with a background image in the Google homepage.

Just use an image from Picasa or upload your own image to place the background image. An example:

After Google patenting the simplest homepage, this is the next step towards the search engine evolution.

Twitter enables HoverCards (only for few users)

by teamgpt February 10, 2005
written by teamgpt

This is not a much “important” function in twitter BUT oh well here is some good news to all the people who use the Twitter web interface. Twitter now adds a new feature called ” The hovercard of Twitter” which are basically tooltips that appear, when you place the mouse over the nickname at a reply or the avatar picture of a twitter user on twitter.com.

twitter hovercards

Designed to show information useful in retweet – that could draw profiles which are still following – the hovercard indicate details such as audited accounts, real name (where it has been set, otherwise the nickname in full) and geographic location – giving the opportunity to follow flying the user object, even enabling the notifications on mobile devices, but in Italy no longer active.

It seems that it will be possible to expand hovercard to display additional information without having to visit the profile of a user: when there is no mention of integration into API, but that that was perhaps more interesting than the mere inclusion on website Twitter … because despite many clients already establish something similar, via the web is more complex to retrieve the same information.

Nokia Open Sources the Symbian OS Code

by teamgpt February 10, 2005
written by teamgpt

When Nokia purchased Symbian operating system back in 2008 they had plans to make the platform available as open source… and now they’ve done it.

The transition towards a future of all openness is now all achieved. And that too, few months ahead of schedule says the reports from the official website. For nearly a year, only the kernel was open source. Now the most popular development platform in the world for mobile devices is completely free, under the Eclipse license.

There could now be more decisive and tough competition between Symbian and the Android operating system, developed by Google, since the android code is also open source.

This new change marks and will enable Symbian to enter the U.S. and Asian markets with ease again….

UTorrent Falcon coming soon

by teamgpt February 10, 2005
written by teamgpt

When we think about the most popular BitTorrent client, we speak of uTorrent. The bittorrent client has evolved greatly and in the next version codenamed Falcon (right now is currently in Alpha). With it, users can even remotely access the application; all through it has a much simpler interface.

Included in this release would be remote access, which allows users to remotely control the BitTorrent client through a web admin panel. This will only be connected to the Falcon website which in turn is connected to the client later.
In addition, there will be a new remote download functionality. For example: When a file finishes downloading, you may transfer to a remote computer through Web interface which we discussed above. The new version also includes a streaming server, which will enable us to play the file before it is downloaded to the local computer through seeds and peers count.

The news doesn’t end there, with Falcon, it’ll help people find torrent files, but for now the uTorrent team has not reported on how it fits this option on the application. For now, the preliminary versions are still in private beta state. Those who want to try out new features require an invitation, which you can get at http://falcon.utorrent.com/?invite. These are sent regularly, so those who apply should receive an invitation within days.
