HTML 5, what is that?

by teamgpt September 9, 2007
written by teamgpt

HTML is Hypertext Markup Language, and it is the most common language used to create web pages. We’ve got some simple and easy Beginners guide to web designing, take a look if you’re trying to get a hang of HTML. The basic HTML structure is composed of tags, but you can also embed images, videos, and load scripts from other languages (e.g., Javascript) inside pages. HTML 5 is something more advanced than the normal HTML. Its got short codes and is very simple to implement in your pages. It basically helps coding and loading of pages faster!

Some major things that we’ll see with HTML 5:

  • The elements will be more aligned with modern web design practices. Some of the new tags include <header>,<nav>,<aside> and <footer>.
  • The DOCTYPE was simplified to <!DOCTYPE html>.
  • You will be able to embed audio and video directly in the HTML code and without the need for external plugins. The two new elements for that are <audio> and <video>.
  • New APIs (application programming interfaces) will be included. This will enable developers to add drag-n-drop features, document editing, drawing and so on.

Html5 gallery is a showcase of sites using html5 markup, with twin primary aims to help web designers and developers of how to implement html5 into their sites now.. Many browsers are adding HTML 5 specs, but it might be a while before they are fully compatible and before developers start using the language. If you want to test it, both Firefox 3.1 and Safari 3.1 should have support for some features. You can go to youtube.com/html5 to see a demo page built with HTML 5.

Uses:

HTML 5 improves interoperability and reduces development costs by making precise rules on how to handle all HTML elements, teaches how to recover from errors easily and helps load pages real fast! Some of the new features in HTML 5 are functions for embedding audio, video, graphics, client-side data storage, and interactive documents. HTML 5 also contains new elements like <nav>, <header>, <footer>,<!DOCTYPE html> and <figure>.

Well, this sounds real nice but we need to wait and see how this can help developers. What’s on your mind? I’d bet you’ve got something to say! – Post your comments below or send us some tips.

Sync your Google Chrome with your Google account – coming soon, stay tuned!!

Google has revealed plans for a Chrome cloud service that will allow users to synchronize browser data with their Google accounts. The synchronization framework, which is still at an early stage of development, will arrive in Google’s open source Chromium project later this week. Google says that a Chrome build with the sync feature enabled could be made available through a dev-channel update this month.

A post from Google Engineer Tim Steele In the Chromium developer group revealed today, Google’s Chrome browser will be getting Google account synchronization….

Tim says:
c”A bunch of us have been working on a feature to sync user data in Chromium with a Google account,” Steele said. “We have built a library that implements the client side of our sync protocol as well as the Google server-side infrastructure to serve Google Chrome users and synchronize data to their Google Account.”

Sync feature will be limited to bookmark data at first, but it will eventually grow to include other browser data, developer documents say. The result would be similar to the Firefox browser extension Google discontinued last year, which synced history, persistent cookies and passwords across different machines.

“To make this sync infrastructure scale to millions of users, we decided to leverage existing XMPP-based Google Talk servers to give us ‘push’ semantics, rather than only depending on periodically polling for updates,” the FAQ says, “Using XMPP pushes, the sync servers don’t need to waste cycles for no reason.”
What do you think about this advancement? Are you gonna use it? Post your comments below and let us know!

Google moves ahead, removes beta from logos!

by teamgpt July 9, 2007

Gmail out of beta

Google launched Gmail way back in 2004, and since then, it has become one of Google’s most important and popular products other than search. But all the while, it has continued to bear the “Beta” tag, and finally after 5 years, Gmail moves out of beta stage. Also does Google Docs, Calendar and Google Talk have been moved out of beta!!!

Google explains about the beta move on their official Google blog as:

“We’re often asked why so many Google applications seem to be perpetually in beta. For example, Gmail has worn the beta tag more than five years. We realize this situation puzzles some people, particularly those who subscribe to the traditional definition of “beta” software as not being yet ready for prime time …… Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs (Google Docs) and Google Talk — both enterprise and consumer versions — are now out of beta. “Beta” will be removed from the product logos today, but we’ll continue to innovate and improve upon the applications whether or not there’s a small “beta” beneath the logo.”

However, if you’d like to keep the “Beta” tag on your Gmail, you can now enable a “Back to Beta” option in Google Labs….. sweet eh? :) .
