Google real-time search is already live

by teamgpt December 9, 2008
written by teamgpt

Google real-time search is already live… Yes it is :)… According to Google, “Relevance meets the real-time web”.

About 2 months ago, we reported that google is going to bring realtime search soon. Now after, 4months Google on late on Friday afternoon, U.S. Western Time,  announced that they are now releasing the personalized search, personalized search for all users. Although, this was seen by many as the biggest single change made to the search results, it so seemed that very few noticed anything at all.

The news was hardly highlighted at all. Perhaps because of the date but perhaps also because many of us who spend much of our time trying to analyze what Google is doing already had become used to Google rarely produces the same results for two different users.

A few who thought it was a bit strange that Google did so little fuss on the issue. Little did we know that this was a tiny little change compared with what would be presented today … Google was not only personally, both with regard to your geographic location and search history and choice of sökresutat, but also to its timing. Now, Google now gets updates from various services such as Twitter, Facebook pages, MySpace, Identic, Jaiku … and not to forget in real-time!

On the Google blog, Google says:

Our real-time search enables you to discover breaking news the moment it’s happening, even if it’s not the popular news of the day, and even if you didn’t know about it beforehand. For example, in the screen shot, the big story was about GM’s stabilizing car sales, which shows under “News results.” Nonetheless, thanks to our powerful real-time algorithms, the “Latest results” feature surfaces another important story breaking just seconds before: GM’s CEO stepped down.

If you want to see real-time search, first look, here it is:

Techcrunch compares Google’s realtime search to the speed of light :).

“Light can travel around the world in 1/10th of a second, and we won’t rest until the speed of light is the only barrier to getting good search results to you,” Singhal noted. You can find some screenshots, videos and more information on the techcrunch post here.

Bing

Today Bing sent me an email notification about the new Bing & Ping preview program coz i’d signed up for the preview and asked to be contacted when it released. Then I noticed something strange, Bing marketing mail had thousands of users email address in the TO: field of the email. I should say, the Bing marketing team is really dumb. With all the excitement Bing has now has made public thousands of email addresses. If this gets into the hand of spammers you might see a lot of spam in your inbox.

And now Bing team realized the mistake and have sent an apology note!

bing is really dumb

What do you guys think about this foolish act by the Bing marketing team? post your comments below! I’d love to hear your reactions too ;)

tanabata doodle

Tanabata (meaning “Evening of the seventh”) is a Japanese star festival, derived from the Chinese star festival, Qi Xi (“The Night of Sevens”)

It celebrates the meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair). The Milky Way, a river made from stars that crosses the sky, separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. Since the stars come out at night, the celebration is held at night..

New technique used by Scammers \ Fraudsters to trap the bait!! – BEWARE, SMS scam is here.

by teamgpt June 9, 2008
written by teamgpt

DO NOT reply to those messages which reads like “You won 850000$, to claim the prize send an email to xxxxx@gmail.com.” – This basically is the international lottery scam witnessing a new spin: Mobile phones are now being used as baits by fraudsters to net victims. Earlier, they used to send e-mails telling people to deposit money to claim big lottery prizes. Now, these emails have been replaced by SMSes.

spammers on the phone

It works like this: You get a message on your mobile phone with a congratulatory message for winning the lottery and an instruction to furnish details of your bank account. you do so, and cyber criminals empty your account by the time you realize the trap. This shift of modus operandi is because internet users have become more cautious. At times, the SMSes come in the name of big companies.

I recently got a message that I had won 85,000,000$ in a lottery and to claim the prize all I had to do is send an email to xxxxx@gmail.com with my name, age, phone number. Many such messages are finding their way to the mobile in recent times. Interestingly, none of these messages have a source number. Instead, they display a code number to which no reply can be sent through the phone. Some of them are ID-OTD, ID-WEBSMS and TA-OTDC.  To send the messages, they use websites which allow free SMS services and when somebody provides their number for any promotional activity, it does not remain private after all.
