It says:

“But wait! We have recommended items waiting for you to read.
Sweet! Show me my recommendations”

Seen more new stuff on Google? share them with us. Contact us and we’ll be happy to post them :)

Modern Day Wallpaper to Organize your Desktop

by teamgpt March 10, 2009
written by teamgpt

Labnol shared a thought on organizing desktop with a simple wallpaper. Some folks from TechXav made some modern day changes to the wallpaper and gave it a pleasant look with color!

Here is the wallpaper:

You can use this link to view and download the wallpaper template. If your screen size is bigger and if the icons don’t fit the table shelf, you can always right click on the desktop and uncheck align icons to grid view.

Facebook:A company that does not listen to user needs, finally wakes up!

by teamgpt March 9, 2009

Facebook

Users are still buzzing angrily about Facebook’s recent homepage redesign. The latest installment of this social media drama is an email Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent to his employees stating that “the most disruptive companies don’t listen to their customers.” This is in addition to a popular application that has polled users on the redesign, with over 90% voting in disapproval. The firestorm simply doesn’t subside for Mark Zuckerberg and company.

When a vote was conducted about the new design of Facebook, here is how people voted about the new design:

facebooks new design sucks - vote poll

And now after hell lot of criticism about the new design, Facebook seems to wake up all of a sudden and respond… From the latest blog post in Facebook, new improvements are on its way:

Here are the top four things Facebook has been hearing from all of the people putting in feedback about the changes, and the areas where Facebook is focusing on improvements immediately and over the next several weeks.

Add more control and relevance in the stream:
One of the great parts of Facebook is the ability to share and consume different types of content, such as photos, videos and notes, all in one place. We’ve heard from you that you want even more variety and control in your stream, and for it to update automatically. Some specific improvements we’re making are:

Live updating: One of the most common requests is the ability to see your stream update automatically. We will be adding the ability to turn on auto updating in the near future so you no longer need to refresh the page.

Photo tags: In order to surface more photos you might like to see, we’ll be adding photos tagged of your friends to the stream. This will happen in the coming weeks.

More choices for applications: We’ve heard feedback that there is a lot of application content appearing in the stream. We will be giving you tools to control and reduce application content that your friends share into your stream.

See more Highlights: Highlights will update more frequently and will show you more content throughout the day to mirror more closely the content that the earlier News Feed provided.

Easier way to create a Friends List filter: From the filters on the left, you will be able to create a new list of friends with which to filter the stream.

So far there are 4,970 others who liked the new changes like this. Well if you think this is OK and this is what you wanted to change in Facebook that’s good news for you…. Comment on here and let Facebook know if you’re a happy chapper! :)

Interestingly, tonight’s post didn’t come from Mark Zuckerberg, as has been the case with past “apology” notes. Instead, it comes from Christopher Cox, “Director of Product.”

Good news for orkut skin lovers

by teamgpt March 9, 2009

orkut

With all of the new orkut skins that Google has launched recently, its tough to keep up with the new ones. To help make sure that none of you have to worry about missing out on a skin that you might like to add, Google has decided to add skin updates to your activity streams.

Now you should start seeing updates whenever your friends change the background of their profiles. If you want to check out the skin that they’re using, just click on your friend’s name. As always, whenever you feel inspired to change the look of your own orkut profile (whether it is to one of the skins your friend is using or any of the others available), just click on the ‘change skins’ link in your orkut header.

[UPDATE: All of you guys in India can feel free to start using this feature right away. Everyone else should keep an eye out for this the next time we launch a skin on orkut. We hope you enjoy it!]

The Google Web Toolkit-based Google Moderator app now went live on WhiteHouse.gov (it was previously shown at Change.gov). The project is called Open for Questions and lets you register and ask the US administration questions on the economy.

Google moderator code in whitehouse.gov

You won’t see the Google logo, but you can open the frame’s source HTML and see for yourself. (You can also look up the IP location of the source domain moderator.whitehouse.gov, which points to Mountain View, California.)

Instant Message your RSS Feeds

by teamgpt February 10, 2009
written by teamgpt

Are you an instant messenger kind of person, love to stays online to chat with friends & family?  We’ll then; here is an interesting service that combines the capabilities of ‘RSS feeds’ with ‘Instant Messaging’. It’s called RSS.IM. This unique service reports all your favorite RSS feeds directly to your instant messenger (GTalk or Jabber account).

rss to im

The interface is quite simple, minimalist – functional. The service is free and is worth a try, in my opinion. A word of caution though – Try to add only important RSS feeds, or you might be bombarded with RSS IM’s :).
