google doodle jordan national

Jordan (Arabic al-‘Urdunn), officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is an Arab country in Southwest Asia spanning the southern part of the Syrian Desert down to the Gulf of Aqaba. It shares borders with Syria to the north, Iraq to the north-east, the West Bank and Israel to the west, and Saudi Arabia to the east and south.

It shares control of the Dead Sea with Israel, and the coastline of the Gulf of Aqaba with the State of Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Much of Jordan is covered by desert, particularly the Arabian Desert; however the north-western area, with the Jordan River, is regarded as part of the Fertile Crescent. The capital city of Amman is in the north-west.

[WARNING] – linkteria.be is a Facebook Scam: DO NOT Visit!

by teamgpt May 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

It seems there’s no end to the Facebook phishing attacks and scam. Today I received an email notification from a friend of mine on Facebook which said “Check linkteria.be” seems like there’s another attack underway.

Most tech savvy users: I’m receiving Facebook mails with links to “.be” sites which are obviously nefarious. The subject line of the mails is “Look at This” or “Hello”.

If you receive such a mail, DO NOT click links to the following sites:

  • goldbase.be
  • greenbuddy.be
  • silvertag.be
  • picoband.be<
  • linkteria.be

These sites are basically scam \ phishing sites, which means they want to know \ steal your passwords.

Does Facebook care? Do they take legal actions against such scam \ phishing sites?

Yes, they do care… they don’t want their users to deleted their Facebook accounts now do they?.. Trust me! Not very long ago Facebook filed a federal complaint against “Spam King” Sanford Wallace in San Jose District Court and Facebook won and was awarded $873 million in spam case…

Go to http://www.facebook.com/safety/ and read about Facebook Safety tips to stay safe. You could also contact abuse@facebook.com and keep them informed about the spam \ phishing attack.

I’m scared. How do I stop it? What to do?

If you receive one of these Facebook mails, simply delete it – one of your friends is infected but not you. If you find, however, that your account is sending the mails:

– As a precaution, go to your browser settings and clear your cookies.
– Change your Facebook password
– Make sure your antivirus software is up to date and run a full system scan
– Inform your friend to do the same…

Maybe you don’t want to upload those party photos on Web \ Social network

by teamgpt May 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

Try this: Take a photo and upload it to Facebook, then after a day or so, note what the URL to the picture is (the actual photo, not the page on which the photo resides), and then delete it. Come back a month later and see if the link works. Chances are: It will.

delete photo from facebook

Facebook isn’t alone here. Researchers at Cambridge University (so you know this is legit, people!) have found that nearly half of the social networking sites don’t immediately delete pictures when a user requests they be removed. In general, photo-centric websites like Flickr were found to be better at quickly removing deleted photos upon request.

Why do “deleted” photos stay there so long?

The problem relates to the way data is stored on large websites: While your personal computer only keeps one copy of a file, large-scale services like Facebook rely on what are called content delivery networks to manage data and distribution.

Here is a sneak peek on how Facebook stores millions of photos on their server:

existing photo storage in facebook
[They use something called Haystack file storage system, which basically means Haystack stores photo data inside 10 GB bucket with 1 MB of metadata for every GB stored. Metadata is guaranteed to be memory-resident, leading to only one disk seek for each photo. Haystack servers are built from commodity servers and disks assembled by Facebook to reduce costs associated with proprietary systems. Cache remains a first line-of-defense to Haystack lookups, quickly processing requests and loading images from memory cached where appropriate. Haystack provides a fast and reliable file backing for these specialized requests.]

P.S: if you don’t understand what I’m talking about, its ok :D….

Google and Microsoft also use almost the same technology to store the whole WebPage as cached pages.

What is Google webpage Cache?

Google takes a snapshot of each page it examines and caches (stores) that version as a back-up. The cached version is what Google uses to judge if a page is a good match for your query. Click here, for more information about Google Cache.

Moral of the story: Those drunken party photos you don’t want people to see? Simply don’t upload them to the web, ever, because trying to delete them is a tough proposition.  :) makes you want to think twice huh?…. Stay secure & have fun !!

Google Wave: The new way to communicate on the Internet! May be an improved twitter by Google..

by teamgpt May 9, 2009

Google wave
wave logo

Google at the Google I / O conference announced Google Wave a new service by Google Even before the service goes online, the developers get a first preview.

Google Wave is a new tool for communication and collaboration on the web, coming later this year.

What is a wave?

Google Wave is a product that helps users communicate and collaborate on the web. A “wave” is equal parts conversation and document, where users can almost instantly communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more. Google Wave is also a platform with a rich set of open APIs that allow developers to embed waves in other web services and to build extensions that work inside waves.

A wave is equal parts conversation and document. People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

A wave is shared. Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.

A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.

Well that’s what Google has to say about Wave for now!!… Sounds familiar? Does this sound something   like twitter?  Well it is quite possible…. And this also has some same features like real-time content updates etc just like twitter and yes with more improved features i.e.  richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps and more!!!

by teamgpt April 10, 2009
written by teamgpt

Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in held on April 22, 1970.

The first Earth Day was a major environmental event in the U.S. designed to shake the political establishment and force the integration of environmental issues on the national agenda.

Subsequently, this event led to the creation of the agency to protect the U.S. Environmental (EPA) and the adoption of the law “Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species.”

Since 1990, Earth Day has become a global event, and there are over 500 million people in 184 countries are taking action through the day. The Earth Day has become participatory event environmentalist the largest in the world.
