Firefox Mobile gets a new logo; Announces contest winner and a new logo

by teamgpt November 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

Aha.. Finally, firefox mobile gets a new logo!
firefox mobile logo
Firefox had a challenge to create a new Mozilla for mobile logo design. They announced the winner of the competition and chose a new logo for Firefox mobile too :)

From the Mozilla blog:

“The results from the Mozilla Creative Collective’s “Firefox Goes Mobile” design challenge are in, and I’m happy to announce that the winner is “Pocketfox”, by Yaroslaff Chekunov. As the official emblem of the upcoming mobile version of Firefox, we’ll be using this image as an avatar on social networking sites, on mozilla.com, on t-shirts and more. It makes a great addition to our portfolio of Firefox imagery!”

Somehow looks like Firefox is hiding in a pocket – but I don’t understand if this image captures what Firefox could potentially bring to mobile browsing. Do you like it? Shout it loud in your comments below!!

Now you don’t have to answer quizzes to know the new locations. Google Earth now has made available a file with all the updated pictures in red. You can grab the file at http://mw1.google.com/mw-earth-vectordb/Imagery_Updates/imagery_updates.kml.

Google Calendar – Sneak Preview

by teamgpt November 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

google calendar

Google calendar starts rolling out new features in Calendar labs – here is a sneak preview! This sneak preview allows you to simultaneously preview your friend’s calendars while creating an event. Currently in Labs, the “Free or busy” gadget already allows you to check the present availability of your friends but when scheduling an event, you would still need to go to a future date, cross check your friend’s calendar to make sure that all of your guests are free during a particular time before creating the event.

With Sneak Preview, you would be able to preview your friend’s calendar on a new mini-calendar in the Create Event screen. This makes scheduling events much easier by allowing you to see when people are free and if the proposed time would conflict with existing events. Here’s a screenshot of Sneak Preview in action:

New: Online store search engine by Google

commerce_search

With the holiday season around the corner, Google has made its move towards search for products with Google Search Commerce.

Google Search Commerce is hosted on Google and should bring some benefits to shop owners.

Google says that users decide, on average, in less than 10 seconds if they shop at this store and look at the range a little more or buy it at another online store.

During the search, these products can sort by price or brand and certain items can be highlighted. In addition, Google also searches for synonyms and look like other syntaxes, so that the search is working more effectively.

If you are a visual kind of person, here is a video demonstration:

Google open sources its awesome JavaScript tools

by teamgpt November 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

code_labs

Google made a set of its JavaScript tools open sourced and is available for all in Google code labs. The tool has been used internally in the development of Google Maps, Gmail and Google Docs. The various tools called compilers Closure, Closure Library Closure templates and Closure Inspector are some of the javascript tools which were open sourced.

The compiler is used to refine and optimize JavaScript code. It makes your code run even with slow connections, quickly executed. The closure Inspector helps diagnose covert code and improve the code performance. This is an extension for Firebug.

Library Closure is the Google’s JavaScript library. It is based on the standards and provides application services to JS components and works in different browser. With the closure templates you can automate the build of HTML pages.
