YouTube now has its own short URL, Youtu.be

by teamgpt December 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

youtube

Last week Google introduced its own short URL Goo.gl and now YouTube follows and has its own short URL – YOUTU.BE too. YouTube has used a Belgian domain, Youtu.be. These short URL’s are for YouTube videos and be used in conjunction with the Auto Share function and also all videos on the website through these short URL’s reachable. You cannot use short URL’s for other websites as possible with the Google.

In a blog post announcing the new feature, YouTube writes that the short URL will be used exclusively for YouTube videos (which mean it isn’t as useful to spammers for misdirection). The post also notes that because all youtu.be shortlinks include the YouTube video ID, developers can use that information to surface thumbnails and track how a video is spreading.

Unfortunately, embedding a video ID has a downside: they’re relatively long. Whereas your typical bit.ly link weighs in at around 20 characters, a youtu.be link comes out to 27 characters, primarily because YouTube IDs are a beefy 11 characters long. That may not sound like much, but those extra 7 characters represent 5% of your maximum tweet length. Hopefully the features that video IDs enable for developers will outweigh that cost.

Any videos shared through YouTube’s autosharing features to Facebook, Twitter, and Google Reader will take advantage of the new short URLs automatically.

Techcrunch also reported that the youtube URL’s are Still Pretty Long :). And Mashable says Youtube needs its own Short URL Coz they just need one…. :D

You can also create the link yourself in this format:

To use youtu.be manually, simply take a URL like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdeioVndUhs and replace the “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=” with “http://youtu.be/” to get: http://youtu.be/FdeioVndUhs Plug that shorter URL into the browser and you’ll see it redirects to that video.

Download 3 Idiots Movie HQ only from Youtube

by teamgpt December 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

3 idiots movie

Aamir Khan, marketing genius is at work again, one can expect the craziest ways of promoting a film. This time the producers of 3 Idiots have struck a deal with online video sharing and broadcasting portal YouTube for an undisclosed sum.

This legal downloading of films is aimed at people who are unable to go to the cinema. Known that this is the first time an entire movie can be legally downloaded from YouTube, of course it was already possible to download camera prints of the movie as a workaround, this is the first time a HQ DVD was available for download.

Bollywood producer Vinod Chopra has announced:

“The movie will be released on YouTube after eight to ten weeks,” The deal with YouTube will allow viewers to download the entire movie from the Web at a fixed price. “We haven’t decided on the pricing points yet, but we hope this will stop illegal download and video sharing,”

According to a recent report released by Motion Picture Association of America, India ranks eight among countries with the highest incidence of online piracy. I’m sure the only way to maximize revenues is to have multiple launch platform and youtube (the worlds largest and popular video service) is one of them.. :) .

The film download is not free, there is a certain amount paid before the movie can be downloaded (pay-per-download). How much should be paid is not known yet. It is also not known how big the download will be and whether there are other restrictions. Stay tuned :).

Google Chrome Extentions gallery

by teamgpt December 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

chrome extentions logo

Google announced today the launch of the beta portal for Google Chrome extensions. Developers have already submitted some addons in recent weeks. The first extensions are only available for Windows and Linux, but Mac is coming soon. The gallery is currently taking over 300 extensions, some of Google itself,

What Google forgot to mention in its announcement about extensions is that they don’t work with the current stable version of Chrome. You’ll need to download a Chrome beta in order to get them to work.

Popular ones include Chromed Bird, a Twitter feed extension, Shareaholic, Torrent Downloader, and the Google Mail Checker. I tried out,Twitter feed extension and Torrent Downloader.

There are actually two steps:
– First you download the extension, then you click the Install button that automatically appears after the download is complete.

Once that is done, the extension immediately appears in the Chrome browser, right next to the address bar. Uninstalling is just as easy. There’s an Extension menu item under the Tools menu. It opens a list of installed extensions that you can disable or uninstall.

Reports: Windows 7 is definitely better than Windows Vista

by teamgpt November 9, 2009
written by teamgpt
windows 7 vs windows vista

A new report from the National Purchase diary (NPD) Group shows that Windows 7 is more popular than its predecessor, Windows Vista. Microsoft sold in the initial stage up to 234 percent more than 7 versions of Windows Vista. When looking from the revenue point of view, Windows 7 is also successful. But by the early discounts, pre-orders and the excessive promotion for the Ultimate version of Windows 7 have gained only 82% higher revenue.

“In Vista Ultimate Edition the discount program played a larger role, while Microsoft now rather focuses on the premium product”, “The promotion focused mainly on the cheaper Home Premium such that you could get when buying a new PC.”

OS market sharing ratio
Only the sale of PCs with Windows preinstalled 7 did less well. Before Windows 7 was launched there was a clear growth seen in the number of computers sold, but it was still less than 6 percent in the period of Windows Vista. This is because Vista was launched in January, a period that is generally better than in October for PC vendors. There were many PCs with Windows Vista when Windows 7 was launched.

In the first two weeks after the Windows 7 official launch.  Apple’s Snow Leopard had already come out 3 months ago, according to figures from Net Applications. Windows 7 managed to achieve a market share of 2.15 percent against 1.17 percent for Apple’s Snow Leopard. Windows Vista is still good for 18.83 percent and 70.48 percent is on Windows XP. With the holiday season around the corner more sales of Windows 7 is expected.

Stop Ignoring Twitter now. Here are Some Reasons Why?

by teamgpt November 9, 2009
written by teamgpt

stop ignoring twitter

There have been many articles written about why to use Twitter, how to use twitter and I’ve certainly published my share of them. However, the trend is constantly changing. New trends, ideas, applications, and features coming out, and they further emphasize Twitter’s place on the world wide web.

Following are some reasons why it is becoming increasingly important to marketers and promoters.

  • Twitter Lists The new Twitter Lists are changing the game. With lists your tweets may appear all over the web if you can get onto lists. They will appear on sites and blogs, which are more than likely going to be related to the niche you are in anyway if you have the right audience on Twitter.
  • The Openness of Twitter The openness of Twitter, social media and the web in general, pretty much means that your messages on Twitter won’t be limited to your Twitter audience. Facebook and other social networks will bring tweets in. People will share them, screenshot them, link to them on blogs, etc. Twitter is a means of getting your message out to more people, but it’s not necessarily only the people on Twitter that will see those messages.
  • Building a Relationships I can chop chop Twitter to four basic concepts: listen, learn, care, and serve. Basically, if you listen to the community, you will learn, and if you show that you care, you are more likely to get more out of your efforts. Serving means providing something of use to the community.
  • Traffic that you love Twitter can bring you not only random traffic, but traffic from people who are actually passionate about the niche that you are a part of. Retweets are huge in this regard.  I notice that people are willing to risk their reputations by retweeting your content.
  • Current affairs and real-timeBeing found in Twitter searches (not to mention real time search in general, which is starting to become a main area of focus for all of the big search engines, not to mention all of the standalone real-time search sites) provides a lot of opportunity for exposure. We discussed this here and gave tips for getting found in real-time searches.
  • Going International and Multi-lingual Twitter is expanding into more languages. If you thought Twitter was important to marketing already, consider that for most of its existence, it has only been available in a couple of languages. Now it’s in Spanish, and many more languages will follow. That’s not only going to be huge for international and multi-lingual marketing efforts, it’s going to be huge for Twitter’s growth, and the more Twitter grows, the more potential customers are out there.

And don’t forget to tweet this article :) … Do you have more reasons for not using twitter? share it with us by posting your comments below!
