New Embed codes For YouTube videos

by teamgpt July 10, 2010
written by teamgpt

YouTube has announced a new version of embedding code for Youtube videos . The new code will use an iframe that lets you watch both embedded videos in Flash and in HTML5, according to the users’ browser settings.

The default is to show HTML5 , and it automatically switches to Flash if HTML5 is not available.

According to YouTube, “another benefit of the new code is that in the future Youtube will play videos on mobile devices, which typically use players’ built-in” instead of Flash or HTML5. Android and iPhone phones and others use a special application to display the videos on YouTube, while the mobile browser using a plugin that detects the YouTube code and replace it by its built-in app. The new code will use the tag in HTML5 browsers that support it.

While sandboxing and HTML5 adds functionality to transfer messages, Flash is only used practically to embed content from other websites.

Here is an example video, feel free to view source:

To embed the above video, I simple entered the following code in HTML.

<iframe class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="385" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID" frameborder="0">
</iframe>

Change the VIDEO_ID to your own youtube Video ID. The code is much simpler and short than the original Embed codes.

11 reasons why I hate an Iphone and annoyances – Tips and tricks

by teamgpt July 9, 2010
written by teamgpt
iphone not a phone annoyances

Nothing’s perfect applies to Apple IPhones too. Here are the top 11 Iphone annoyances and what you can do about them:

  • Hiding apps – including the default ones
  • Iphone’s start screen is filled with shortcuts to prepackaged applications that come with the Iphone whether you want them or not. For example: An app for checking stocks whose shortcut can’t be removed from the Iphone interface. Although Apple’s thinks and insists us to use it, not everyone wants to check the Google’s stock price or for that matter the weather or even use calculator or notes. It sucks that the Iphone’s prepackaged apps can’t be hidden, deleted, or otherwise customized; this adds to the stubborn nature of Apple.

  • Can’t Run apps in the background
  • One of the best features of Iphone is streaming videos and radio using Wifi… But too bad it can’t be minimized \ run in the background.

  • Apple stores’  design is bad
  • There may very well be an app that suits your wildest dreams, but good luck finding it among the junk that populates so much of the Iphone’s App Store. Only a text search or sorting apps by release date will get you beyond the top 100 in each category, and even then you’ll turn up plenty of unwanted results and that’s a complete waste of time… maybe they need a show all button.

  • No can do contact list groups
  • On the Iphone, everyone’s your friend, even your boss. That’s because the built-in Contacts app won’t let you split work and personal contacts into separate groups or allow you to create custom groups. Everyone co-exists in one massive list unless you first create subsections on your computer. So what I’ve done is get an app to organize the contacts :)

  • Attach files to emails or store them
  • The Iphone isn’t a computer, I know that. But a Smartphone with so many capabilities and a generous hard drive should at least allow storing and sending of files. Photos and videos to be  sent out directly only from the Iphone’s camera roll; also, you have no way to download Word documents and other files for editing and sending later.

  • Multimedia messaging
  • Almost every other cell phone in the market has the ability to send images to other cell phones via multimedia messaging, or MMS. Yes you can still e-mail those photos, but MMS is such a basic feature that it should’ve been in the Iphone from the start.

  • Bulk email management not enough… very poor
  • Though the Iphone’s 2.0 OS update added bulk e-mail management, it’s not very good and flexible. You can tap individual messages to mark them for deletion or movement to another folder, but there’s no “Select All” option for deleting or moving batches of mail at one time. It’s also not possible to run a search term and delete the results, so forget about easily wiping correspondence with particular people.

  • Jail breaking you’re way out of it
  • If you’re just fed up with AT&T’s service and want to stick it to the man, unlock your Iphone and switch to T-Mobile–the only other major U.S. carrier using the Iphone-friendly GSM radio band–until a better offer comes around. There’s always a chance that AT&T will punish you for being sneaky and you’re warranty for the Iphone ends the day you jail break it. For all you dare devils visit how to unlock your Iphone page by PcWorld

  • Where is the Bluetooth?
  • Right now, all you can use Bluetooth on the Iphone for are headset voice calls, and that’s it. This is sufficient for most people, sure, but we would like for Apple and AT&T to open up the Bluetooth profiles for the Iphone. This means we would like stereo Bluetooth and A2DP for streaming music wirelessly, Bluetooth tethering so we can use the Iphone as a modem, and finally we would like to have Bluetooth file-transfer protocol so we can transfer files to and fro the Iphone.

  • Battery drains out really fast
  • I always have to Turn Wi-Fi off when on the road and turn 3G off when using Wi-Fi. Sometimes I would also turn down screen brightness as much as possible to reduce the battery drain…I tend to forget that the battery won’t hold up for more than a day when its computer like functions are pushed to their limit.

  • Can fry an omelet on my phone too
  • Sometimes while streaming videos, radio or browsing on the internet the phone gets really hot… so maybe someday, I will try to fry an omelet on my Iphone :) and see how it cooks :D

Common workaround for some of the above problems – Jailbreak.

Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices bypassing Apple’s official distribution mechanism, the App Store. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia and Icy. These applications can make changes outside of the application, which official applications cannot.

Bing to power search results for Yahoo now

by teamgpt July 9, 2010
written by teamgpt
microsoft yahoo partnership

It’s already been more than a year since Microsoft’s deal to outright acquire Yahoo…. Now, the focus is on Microsoft’s new search engine – Bing – becoming the search provider on Yahoo.com, which would combine to give the companies a more formidable rival to Google (Google), at least in terms of market share and ad inventory. AdAge reports that a deal “is likely to be announced this week” that would give Microsoft roughly 30 percent share of the online search market.

How does it work? Here is the structure:

“Yahoo would be allowed to sell search ads on Bing.com as well as its own site, giving it more search inventory to sell and making it a bigger player in the search sales front. It would also immediately be able to save millions by not having to maintain its own search infrastructure. The latest terms of the deal underscore Microsoft’s devotion to developing and owning technology vs. selling media.”

For Microsoft, though, the struggle against Google becomes more intense. The combined search market share of Yahoo and Microsoft still is half what Google has, and the fact that Wednesday’s Yahoo pact is smaller in scope than some earlier possible incarnations means Microsoft has that much more hard work before it.

The company clearly wants to make a third big business out of its online operations to complement its Windows and Office cash cows. Getting Yahoo’s search technology and Web site traffic gives it a better stronghold but by no means a victory.

Here are some FAQ’s about the deal:

– Self-serve advertising for both companies will go through Microsoft’s AdCenter platform.

– Microsoft’s BingBingBing will now be the search engine on all Yahoo sites.

– Yahoo will provide the relationship sales force for both companies’ premium search advertisers.

– Each company will maintain its own separate display advertising business.

– Microsoft will compensate Yahoo through a revenue sharing agreement on traffic generated on Yahoo’s network.

– The term of the agreement is 10 years.

All the best microhoo :) is all I got to say!!

uTorrent Falcon OR Web Falcon now open to public

by teamgpt June 10, 2010
written by teamgpt

uTorrent has just published its official public release of “web torrents”, named Falcon uTorrent. After months of tests to users by invitation. This draft uTorrent allows users to access their content via streaming and manage torrents from anywhere through a simple web interface.

utorrent falcon

Falcon is part of the uTorrent Labs, and now it is open to anyone who wants to try them, the development team expects to get enough feedback from users to improve even more.

This now allows us to access our downloads from anywhere through a web interface (which claims to be safe), and to be able to view streaming videos so that we can start watching before the download is complete.

Later hope to add features that help to find torrents, although it is not clear how they will. The only clue is that they do not want to do both as an integrated search engine that slows the program, but who bet on the APIs.

If you want to test the Falcon project, you need to go to the official site and sign up . They also mention that, the are working on improved torrent search for better search optimization. Go Torrents! :)

Google china

Google is currently unavailable in China. Both the Google.cn and Google.com homepage cannot be accessed from china and the reason here again is the communist government.

It raises the search engine “disseminating pornographic, vulgar and obscene content” and thus a violating of the laws in the People’s Republic.

“We are investigating the matter and hoped that the service will be restored soon?, Said Google spokesman John Pinette in Hong Kong.

From July 1 a filter is to be installed on new PCs in China. The content should be blocked by the Government for considers obscene or subversive…

seven sleepers

The Roman Martyrology mentions the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus under the date of 27 June, as follows: “Commemoration of the seven Holy Sleeper of Ephesus, who, it is recounted, after undergoing martyrdom, rest in peace, awaiting the day of resurrection.” The Byzantine Calendar commemorates them with feasts on 4 August and 22 October. They are also regarded as pious in Islam, and are known as “People of the Cave” (Ashab Al-Kahf)..
