dragon boat

A dragon boat or “dragonboat” is a very long and narrow, canoe style human-powered boat now used in the team paddling sport of dragon boat racing which originated in China over 2000 years ago. While competition has taken place annually for more than 20 centuries as part of folk ritual, it emerged in modern times as an international “sport” in Hong Kong in 1976. Like running, horse racing and marksmanship, the racing of dragon boats is among mankind’s oldest organized competitions.

Google Doodle: 20th anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Telescope

by teamgpt April 10, 2011
written by teamgpt

Today’s Google Doodle set up aims to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Hubble telescope. For the occasion, Google has setup a large logo which takes up the entire width of your screen.

Google has also setup a Hubble Gallery to promote Google Earth.

20th Anniversary of Hubble Telescope Launch by NASA

The Hubble telescope is a telescope placed in orbit about 600 km altitude, it makes a full rotation of the Earth every 100 minutes. His name was given in honor of the astronomer Edwin Hubble. Launched April 24, 1990 by a spacecraft, it is the result of long research work at NASA and the European Space Agency.

The Hubble telescope has an optical resolution better than 0.1 arcsec. Its replacement is planned for 2014 and this will be the James Webb Space Telescope.

The Hubble telescope has already made some discoveries:

  • In 1994, images of the collision of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with Jupiter.
  • The evidence of planets orbiting stars other than our Sun.
  • The dark matter in our galaxy is not composed entirely of small faint star.
  • Some of the observations leading to the current model of the accelerating expansion of the Universe.
  • Theory arguing that most galaxies contain black holes at their centers.
  • In December 1995, Hubble photographed the Hubble Deep Field, an area covering a 30-millionth of the sky and containing several thousand galaxies. Another image, but the southern sky, also has been done and is very similar, reinforcing the theory that the universe is uniform at large scale and that the Earth occupies any place in the universe.

Eric Schmidt and Doug Morris, CEO of the world’s leading music company Universal Music Group, have announced a new portal. The Portal called Vevo will be launched in the coming months; they go online on a joint development of Universal Music and YouTube, on Vevo to find and to produce quality videos from Universal Music.

YouTube provides a portal to the technical requirements, and makes it possible that Universal Music may offer premium videos. These contents are exclusively available in Vevo and in a new channel on YouTube. This is a special player to use.

“The world’s largest online audience for videos on Vevo receives access to outstanding music video content and services,” said Doug Morris, CEO of Universal Music Group.

“We are convinced that Vevo already from the start will have more hits than any other site for music videos in the United States and around the world. Our audience is composed of advertisers, most popular demographic group, and promotional allowances are increased for new media output. Vevo is particularly well positioned to exploit these opportunities and more options on our way to the first stop for Premium to create music videos.

For music fans who only want the best music videos, Vevo is an incomparable experience. New Gmail Labs: Inserting images

by teamgpt April 9, 2011

Gmail labs

Before, inserting images in Gmail was not so simple. The Gmail experiment Inserting images is now easier, with the new feature.

After activation of the settings to insert images button, opens a dialog where you can either upload an image an from the computer or with a URL.

To get this working for you, enable the feature called “Inserting images”. Now you can add pics either by uploading, or by referencing an image URL, though neither approach will guarantee that your image will be shown in email clients on the receiving end… for instance, Gmail protects recipients from URL-referencing images, and Hotmail protects even from embedded images.

Chat anyone? wow ur online! lets chat baby

Orkut chat rooster

The recent launch of the built-in chat feature () within orkut has made hanging out with friends online much easier and a whole lot more fun. Yet, while it’s always great to come across a little green ‘available’ bubble next to the name of a good friend, finding friends who are available to chat on orkut hasn’t been as straightforward as it could have been.

To make it easier to connect with all of your friends who are online, Google-Orkut has decided to launch an orkut chat roster. This new roster shows you all of your contacts who are signed into Google Talk, whether through orkut, Gmail, iGoogle or the Google Talk application. If you want to chat with any of them, all you have to do is click on their names directly within the roster.

Orkut chat rooster

No matter where you go on orkut, the chat roster sits neatly on the left side of your orkut page. Want to customize the size and organization of your chat roster? Play with its look and feel by clicking on the ‘options’ tab. Of course, if you ever get tired of seeing who’s signed into chat, you can also minimize the roster (or sign out of chat entirely), with a single click.
