Fake Security Essentials 2010 – Beware

by teamgpt February 10, 2012
written by teamgpt

We all know about the free antivirus by Microsoft. Now there seems to be a fake one too… Microsoft is warning users about a new threat – Fake version of, the Security Essentials. The fake anti-virus, known as Security Essentials 2010 is actually a trojan Win32/Fakeinit, which installs itself to detect cases of breaking at random infected errors, saying they are infected.

“It’s normal to see criminals mimic the Security Center. So I inevitably have a fake anti-virus masquerading as something similar to Essentials. Only I’m amazed to have taken so long, “said David Wood, an expert in Microsoft Malware Protection Center.
fake security essentials 2010
Once active, the program pretends to monitor the machine finding several viruses that exist on the operating system. While cleaning  the system, it asks for the User to buy the full version of the product.

Microsoft analysts says:

“As always warned, our product can be downloaded and used free of charge for customers using genuine copies of Windows. So a product that mimics our solution and still asks payment does not mean good thing, “.

Another trick performed by the threat is to change the wallpaper on your computer, which shall display a message saying the system is infected. Some changes in the registry can easily prevent the Users from changing the wallpaper.

The company asks for your customers to download only from trusted sites. Another way to protect yourself is to keep your security software updated with the latest definitions of all threats.

The online photosharing site turns 6years today… Here is a heartly happy birthday to Flickr!

happy birthday flickr

This day in 2004, a Vancouver company called Ludicorp created this photo sharing service. Today it has become the largest social network dedicated to snapshots. Flickr by Yahoo, celebrates six years today. The system allows you to store, share and search Flickr images by tags, date and Creative commons license attribute for all users.

In November 2008, Flickr hosted more than three billion images. Every minute there are about 5,000 images added to Flickr. Although data are a little older, we used to see the success of this network that competes mainly with Picasa from Google.

At present Google has indexed about two hundred and ninety billion images from Flickr alone.

written by teamgpt

Ever wondered how twitter became so popular? Well when a geeky person creates something with all his heart, it’s supposed to become a hit (after some years). Twitter has become one of the most popular social network available on the internet.

Here is a funny video – An introduction to Twitter posted by co-founder, Biz Stone in the year 2006. Twitter promoted its own creation, breaking quite a few laughs about four years ago.

Checkout the nerd wink in the end :).

Google’s Experimental Fiber Network

by teamgpt February 10, 2012
written by teamgpt

Google – The Californian Company has submitted its draft to the fast network to provide Internet access at speeds over 100 times greater than that of normal provider uses, up to 1 gigabit second.

According to the initial plan, after close agreements with various local authorities, the American fast network could reach a number of people ranging from 50,000 to 500,000. The reason for Google to put its hand into this field would be the company’s desire to provide a true high-speed network and developers to see what they can create thanks to the enormous amount of bandwidth.

From the Blog, Google says:

Our goal is to experiment with new ways to help make Internet access better and faster for everyone. Here are some specific things that we have in mind:

* Next generation apps: We want to see what developers and users can do with ultra high-speeds, whether it’s creating new bandwidth-intensive “killer apps” and services, or other uses we can’t yet imagine.
* New deployment techniques: We’ll test new ways to build fiber networks, and to help inform and support deployments elsewhere, we’ll share key lessons learned with the world.
* Openness and choice: We’ll operate an “open access” network, giving users the choice of multiple service providers. And consistent with our past advocacy, we’ll manage our network in an open, non-discriminatory and transparent way.

Facebook shows profile photos apps that you have added in Yahoo search engine results

Shows profile photos, facebook apps info in Yahoo search results

….Whola I found your information so easily on Yahoo search!

Yahoo Search has launched a new feature that automatically shows Facebook profile photos in its search results. Now, when someone searches for your name on Yahoo, they can see your Facebook profile photo in the search listings.

Here is a sneak peak:

yahoo facebook results

This is made possible by Yahoo SearchMonkey application that reads structured data published by Facebook. Yahoo’s SearchMonkey platform allows developers to use structured data to make their Yahoo Search results more visually interesting and useful. In this case, Facebook is showing links to certain features (Add friend, Poke, Send message, View friends) and displaying a profile photo. Thanks to Yahoo’s SearchMonkey, you’ll be able to poke your friend’s right from a page of Yahoo search results.

The new feature only works for people who have their “public search listing” privacy settings turned on. To see what your public search listing privacy settings are, click here.

Facebook is the seventh SearchMonkey app to be turned on for all Yahoo search users. The others are LinkedIn, Yelp, Yahoo Local, Citysearch, Zagat, and Wikipedia.

Huge List of Ping \ Update service URLs for Wordpress

by teamgpt January 10, 2012
written by teamgpt

Ping or Update Services are tools that you can use to let other people know you’ve updated your blog (or in simple words, its just notifying sites, and letting them know that you have new content on your Website).

WordPress automatically notifies popular Update Services that you’ve updated your blog by sending a XML-RPC ping each time you create or update a post. In turn, Update Services process the ping and updates their proprietary indices with your update. Now people browsing sites like Technorati or Sphere can find your most recent posts easily!

So I’ve put together a list of popular ping shot URL’s that we can add to our Wordpress for better crawling of the content.

Here is the list, feel free to add them to your wordpress.
