Google Docs now understands .xlsx format & further improvements in Spreadsheets

Google Documents

A new version of Google Spreadsheets is here! And it can import files in XLSX format also :) …..

In November 2006, Office 2007 introduced a new file format: Office Open XML. Now, nearly 2.5 years later, Google can import XLSX files into Google Docs. Besides this change, Google has even more updates in Google Spreadsheets, released.

Make sure to check out the following new features in Google Docs:

  • XLSX import. Excel ’07 files (xlsx) can now be successfully imported into Google spreadsheets, supporting cell data, formatting, formulas, font style, background color, named ranges, frozen panes, and horizontal merges. And currently there is no option to export files as .xlsx.
  • Google Tournament function. The GoogleTournament() function allows users to query NCAA data (including team names, records, scores, seedings, game times, etc) in a Google spreadsheet (ideal for creating automatic brackets). More info here: http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=142595 and in this blog post:  http://googledocs.blogspot.com/2009/03/new-template-2009-college-basketball.html Also check out GoogleTournament Google has added to our templates gallery: http://docs.google.com/previewtemplate?id=0As3tAuweYU9QcHlVM3hrY2tocEkxaU12Q01UZmlvRUE
  • Updated GoogleLookup. The GoogleLookup() function will now attempt to find answers to questions it couldn’t answer before. In addition, there’s now a dialog box to help you pick from among a handful of possible answers if GoogleLookup isn’t sure. Just select the cell and click ‘More Options…’ to choose a different value. More info here: http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=54199
  • Updated Motion Chart. The Motion Chart team recently added new features like bar charts and zoom. More info is in our Help Center at: http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=91610 You can also check out this example here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pCQbetd-CptE1ZQeQk8LoNw
  • Google Apps automatic identity in Forms. This feature enables the optional collection of the user’s email address when filling out a form on a Google Apps domain. More info here: http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=87809
  • Form summary page printing. The form summary page can now be printed through your browser’s “Print” menu.

Google Earth now installed in an Audi A8 Car

by teamgpt December 9, 2018

audigoogle earth

We’ve seen lot of cars with built in GPS system. But not one with Google Earth Navigation system built into it. The Audi A8 now comes fully loaded with Google Earth GPS, fitted right into the LCD screen in the car, the Google Earth application will let owners look at 3D satellite imagery, terrain information, and even additional info layers such as Wikipedia articles or images related to a certain location.

Audi A8’s system will also feature Google Maps + Local Search + the ability to link it all with your desktop computer and access the Google Information. To save time, you can simply search for an address on your computer and send it to the car; when you start driving, the car will know where to go :) . Isn’t that cool now? It’s as if now is the future with Google Technology.

Another Google Bomb, now its Obama

by teamgpt November 9, 2018

google bomb obama

I’m not sure if this happens purposefully or its just a link back hack on Google search result, but it looks bad.

When you search for ‘who is failure‘ in the Google search, you get  president Obama (with the white house link) as the top most result.. Does this mean Obama is a failure? President Barak Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Prize for Peace…

This is just a Google search algorithm failure as far as I can say!! What are your opinions? Share your thoughts!!

diwali orkut doodle

Google didn’t put up a new doodle this diwali but orkut didn’t forget to post one!!! Diwali or D?p?vali is a significant festival in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism, and an official holiday in India. Adherents of these religions celebrate Diwali as the Festival of Lights. They light diyas—cotton string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil—to signify victory of good over the evil within an individual.

Mozilla auto disables Microsoft .NET add-on due to security vulnerability

by teamgpt October 9, 2018
written by teamgpt

Mozilla announced that the recent update of the .NET Framework Assistant which was updated during the recent auto updated had serious security vulnerability, and Microsoft is recommending that all users disable the add-on.

mozilla disables .net add-on

The popup announcing this said that the ‘following addons have been known to cause stability or security issues with Firefox and hence will be disabled.’ Thanks, Mozilla team, for hitting the kill switch and hopefully this will get Microsoft to release a patch sooner.” Mozilla explains on its security blog that they have gotten in touch with Microsoft. In the mean while Firefox team has put the blocklist entry live immediately. (Some users are already seeing it disabled, less than an hour after the Mozilla team added it to the blocklist!)

How does this attack work? “All that is needed is for a user to be lured to a malicious website,” Microsoft said. Triggering this vulnerability involves the use of a malicious XBAP (XAML Browser Application).

Microsoft says “The flaw is a bad one, but users who have installed the MS09-054 IE update, released Tuesday are protected from this attack, “regardless of the attack vector,”

To protect users who may not have installed Microsoft’s patch, Mozilla is automatically blocking two add-ons: the Microsoft .Net Framework Assistant and a related plugin called the Windows Presentation Foundation.

Ever wondered why we have // 2 forward slashes in our world wide web URL?

by teamgpt October 9, 2018
written by teamgpt

http world wide web

Finally, after almost 2 decades a light has been shed on one of the great mysteries of the internet. What is the point of the two forward slashes that sit directly in front of the “www” in every internet website address? Why not just one forward slash?

The answer, according to the British scientist who created the World Wide Web, is that there isn’t one.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who wrote the code that transformed a private computer network into the web two decades ago, has finally come clean about the about the infuriating // that internet surfers have cursed so frequently.

He explained that the intent was to separate the protocol name (such as HTTP or FTP) from the rest of the address, but as it turned out only the colon was necessary.

Today the URLs, better known as web addresses — that Sir Tim created, beginning http://www, are familiar to anyone navigating their way around the internet.

Oh well, that’s another Web mystery solved! :)
