Facebook is now slimming down with its new “Lite” version. Its available for users in the United States and India, according to TechCrunch.

Facebook Lite is a faster, simpler way to keep in touch with your friends. If you like it, you may choose to use it instead of the regular Facebook..
The new version of the site seems to be much simpler and nicer to look at. It appears, at a quick glance, to be a better site for Facebook newbies or for anyone who finds the current site noisy. It also pushes the old-school Facebook apps off a cliff, which is just as well for the newest Facebook-connected services. Wanna try it at lite.facebook.com (its just a stripped-down version of Facebook. It drills Facebook down into its main features, making for a Twitter-like experience, with real time stuff).
The major visual change in Facebook Lite, compared Facebook “Classic,” is simply that most of the navigation and info page that was on the left of the page is now gone. The user is not distracted by the mostly superfluous details that resided there. The input box is also gone, replaced by buttons (Write, Post Photos, Post Video) that pop down the actual input forms only when needed. Want some screenshots? Mashable has some of them..
Also, Facebook announces that they will be supporting @mentions in status updates. The feature, which Facebook calls tagging, allows you to not only reference friends, but groups, pages, and events. Bring it on twitter! I like the Lite site more becase its not overcrowded with things than the old one. Good job, Facebook.
