I’ve always been surprised by the Apple terminologies for their new operating systems. First the tiger, Leopard and now a Snow leopard. Lets keep the Apple innovation aside and look at some of the new improvements from MAC OS Leopard to the new Snow leopard which is making so much news. Here are nine advantages of the new Snow leopard:
Its 64 baby – Fast, secure and lots of memory!
Every one is moving from 32-bit to 64-bit technology, So nearly all system applications in Snow Leopard are rewritten in 64-bit code. To common users, the benefits of using 64-bit technology are faster system performance, support for larger system memory (up to 16 Terabytes), and higher level of system security.
Better Grand Central Dispatch for your applications
Grand Central Dispatch is an Apple technology used to optimize application support for systems with multi-core processors and other symmetric multiprocessing systems.
OpenCl for better graphics
OpenCL in Snow Leopard is a technology that makes it possible for developers to tap the vast gigaflops of computing power currently in the graphics processor and we use it for any application.
QuickTimex
Just like Microsoft came up with .docx, .xlsx and .pptx formats, Apple has its own QuickTimeX. The QuickTime is not just a mere media player but more to the next-generation media technology that powers the audio and video experience in Mac OS X. Included inside this technology is the media player, the ability to deliver smooth media playback, support for advanced video streaming, the ability to edit and share media to various devices including mobile gadgets like iPod and iPhone.
Address Book and iCal can sync to Google and Yahoo
The organizing freaks would surely like the new ability of iCal and Address Book to synchronize with Google and Yahoo account. Well your MAC OSX just got better, it can now sync with the Google, yahoo address books and Ical. You can easily set it up under the accounts tab of the Mac preferences.
More hard drive space
Apple claims that if you upgrade your existing MAC to a snow leopard you’d be saving almost 7GB of your hard drive space (oh boy that’s so much space :) ).
Time Machine backup Quicker.
In Mac OS X Leopard, the revolutionary Time Machine made backing up your hard drive easy for the first time. Time Capsule took backup even further with its wireless hard drive that works seamlessly with Time Machine. Now Snow Leopard makes Time Machine up to 80 percent faster and reduces the time it takes to complete your initial backup to Time Capsule. Up Up and away!! :D
Safari 4
Your Snow leopard comes with the latest version of Apple’s blazing-fast web browser delivers up to 50 percent faster JavaScript performance and is more resistant to crashes than ever.
Support for Microsoft Exchange
Mac OS X Snow Leopard has built-in support for the latest version of Microsoft Exchange Server.
